Heritage Lola T70

Just recently, I sold a 1965 Lola T70 Mk. I to one of Predator Performance’s customers, who will be racing it regularly from now on. It’s currently at the paint shop, getting its proper dark blue original paint scheme, with pale blue “accents” over the front and rear fenders. This is what it looked like as the “Bardahl Special”, when Jerry Grant raced it in 1965 and 1966.

As well as a “proper” Lola T70, said customer had also bought a Heritage Lola T70, which had been in Spyder form when he bought it. I believe Heritage made a few of these cars, basically a space frame chassised car, built to Lola T70 dimensions, but using a DG300 gearbox and more modern suspension arrangement but looking very much like a “real” T70.

Said customer is now having that transformed into a “look alike” T70 Mk. IIIB coupe and I took a few photos of it this last week at Predator, where Larry Ligas is doing the conversion. As well as mounting the coupe bodywork, Larry has also used aluminum sheet to panel in a lot of the tube framing so that, to a casual inspection, the car appears to have a monocoque chassis. It will be interesting to see how many people it fools! This car will also be done in the Bardahl Special colors of dark blue with light blue accents. Should make a great matching pair in the paddocks this year!
