SL70/15

12/8/65: Sold to Haskell Automotive Co; Hollywood, California U.S.A. Ford-engined. LG500-15+16 gearboxes.

Haskell Automotive bought SL70/15 on 12/8/65. Ronnie Bucknum was the driver. Ronnie was also busy with Ford, testing and racing the GT40. This is where Dave Jordan came in. Haskell Wexler, the car owner selected Jordan to be Ronnie's back up when he wasn’t available to drive the T70. Ronnie raced SL70/15 at Kent, Riverside, St. Jovite and Stardust GP (Las Vegas) in 1966.

Dave Jordan raced SL70/15 at the USRRC at Laguna Seca, and the CanAm at the same track in 1966. He was supposed to race it one more time, at the Riverside CanAm but /15 wasn’t prepared in time. At all of these races SL70/15 was powered by a Ford 289. The Laguna CanAm was the last time Haskell raced the car. SL70/15 was raced in black and white colors. Starting at St. Jovite it raced with a different nose configuration, painted white and with race #37. This is the same configuration that SL70/15 was in when Jordan raced it at the Laguna CanAm.

Sold to Bob Bondurant, used as a camera car for film. After that season the body was removed and it was used as a camera car for the movies, including "Winning". Paul Newman may have driven it at some point. This is when he was starting to get hooked on racing.

1987: Sold to Canada. Traco Chevrolet engine. Original Ford engine mounts still in car.
1997: For sale in the USA.
1998: Sold in the USA. Ford engine mounts, knock-off wheels.

An interesting feature of the car is that it came to the present owner with Halibrand knock-offs. He thought these were a much later retrofit, but it turns out they were fitted to the car by the original mechanic when the car was new. Shows up in many of the racing photos.
