Lola T70 Spyders
SL71/16

Sold to Team Surtees. Sent to the USA in July 1965. John Surtees’ second T70. He was badly injured in this car at Mosport in September. It is possible that the suspension, brakes, engine and gearbox were built into a spare tub.

25/9: In practice for the Pepsi 100 prior to the Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport, Surtees suffered severe injuries when front nearside hub carrier broke as he was testing the car for Jackie Stewart.
The remains of the car were buried at Mosport and it is now under the parking lot of the Bowmanville shopping precinct.
Note: This car may have been rebuilt in 1965/6 using the tub marked SL71/17. This car was sold to John Mecom after the 1965 Riverside USRRC race.
