Porsche 930 980 0149 was built in 1979 to Group 4 racing spec. for Swiss racing driver Antoine Salamin. Entered by Ecurie des 13 Etoiles, which translates as “Team of 13 Stars”, the car was entered to race in five of the 1979 World Championship events where it would be co-driven by fellow Swiss drivers Philippe Collet and Gerard Vial.

Prepared by Willy Rossier, first time out for the new car was at Mugello where the car wasn’t allowed to practice after the scrutineers rejected the car on the grounds of an incorrect fuel tank.

At the Dijon 6 Hours things didn’t get much better. Although they were allowed to practice, they were then disqualified after it was discovered that rather astonishingly, the car was still fitted with fuel tanks that didn’t meet the regulations.

They missed the next race at Silverstone while the car was fitted with the correct fuel tanks, and then turned up for practice at Le Mans. This time there were no problems with the cars legality and it took part in all the sessions. The car just failed to qualify to start the race, although it was listed as first reserve should anyone drop out before the start, which no one did.

At Brands Hatch for the Rivet Supply 6 Hours, the car went one better and managed to qualify for the race and finish it, although they were un-classified having not covered enough distance.

Salamin didn’t bother to turn up for the Vallelunga 6 Hours, where he had been due to share the car with the very quick and capable young Swiss driver Enzo Calderari. Instead Salamin took part in the St Ursanne hillclimb where he posted 36th fastest time of the day. He then sold the car straight after the event to Panamanian driver Rodrigo Teran.

Rodrigo ran the car in Central American events for several years until it was bought in pieces by the current owner in 1993 who has since fully restored and rebuilt the car to IMSA GTO spec.

NOTE: It’s probable that this car was bought and raced in IMSA by Bruce Leven.
