Having introduced the 924 Turbo, Porsche set about (in 1980) to develop a race version for it’s GT “Gentleman” drivers and in 1980 the factory team raced three of these new cars at Le Mans, where they finished in 6th, 12th and 13th places. A rollcage was used to stiffen up the bodyshell; coil spring/damper units were fitted; 935 type brakes; and the 2-liter engine tuned to give 310 horsepower.

From this, sprang the customer cars, which were sold in 1981. These had 375 horsepower and several private owners raced them with distinction. Arguably the best of these cars was the one that we offer here, the “Cannon”-sponsored car of Richard Lloyd, well known as a tuner of Volkswagen Gti cars in England.

Lloyd raced chassis number BS70006 in the 1981 World Championship in 1981 and won his class at Nurburgring, Spa, Mugello and Brands Hatch in the 1000 kilometer races. He was partnered by such British racing luminaries as Andy Rouse, Dr. Jonathan Palmer, Tony Dron and Jeff Allam. He also raced the car at Le Mans but retired there after several hours. Afterwards, the car was sold through Dave White Racing in Tampa, Florida to a customer, who carried on racing it in the IMSA series.

0006 has only had four owners from new, including Richard Lloyd, and comes with lots of documents and photos of it’s illustrious career, including the original invoice from Porsche to Richard Lloyd for DM180,000!

The present owner has not only kept 0006 in magnificent condition, he has also taken on an extensive development program to ensure greater engine power, coupled to reliability. In this he has succeeded, which allows us to offer certainly the fastest and most reliable 924 GTR on the planet.

Note: There is another “Canon”-sponsored car for sale in Europe but this is the correct car that can trace its history back to Richard Lloyd.
