The Porsche 935 reigned supreme on the International stage of Sportscar / GT racing from 1976 to 1981. In the USA, 935s were still winning IMSA races as late as 1984. As Brian Redman said: “If you weren’t in a 935, you weren’t going to win!”

The most sought after of the turbocharged monsters is the “K3” variant. The “K” stands for Kremer Brothers Racing of Cologne who built the mechanical parts of the car. Eckerhard Zimmerman designed and made the bodywork of the “K” series.

Briefly, the K3 took the essential 935 (twin turbocharged 3/3.2-liter engine, 4-speed gearbox, RSR/917 type brakes) and replaced the water/air intercooling with air to air intercooling, which prevented engine overheating, turned the gearbox upside down (as had the factory produced cars of 1979) and added extra aerodynamic, wind tunnel-tested bodywork. Additionally, the rollcage was extended throughout the bodyshell to stiffen up the whole structure, a la NASCAR stockcars!

In 1979, the Whittington Brothers, together with Klaus Ludwig, won Le Mans with a K3 bought just hours before the start of the race. Another (one that we sold last year) won the prestigious German Championship (DRM) winning eleven out of the thirteen races. This really put the K3 on the map of International racing and it set off on a truly great career, marking it as one of the most iconic racing cars ever made.

The car that we are proud to offer here is a K3, built by John Greasley’s G-Force Company of Aylesbury, on a new 1988 930 bodyshell (chassis number 008 0038) in 1988/89. (John owned three 935s until very recently!)

Taking John Greasley's personal 935 K3 as the model, G-Force built this car, an exact K3 replica in every detail. It was built for Ross Hyett to compete in the British Racing Drivers’ GT Championship and duly won the hard fought title in 1994. It is fitted with a 962 type engine of 3.3 liters giving some 800 horsepower maximum.

Today, this car is in truly excellent and race ready condition; it appeared as recently as “Rennsport III” at Daytona in December 2007. The engine has done approximately 4 hours since a complete overhaul and a recent leak down test showed an outstanding 6% across all the cylinders. The Kugelfischer fuel injection pump has been overhauled in December. The gearbox has recently been completely overhauled by Powerhaus II. The correct Porsche 935 fuel cell has new foam and features “Dry break” refueling connections. Windscreen is fresh Lexan. The suspension was overhauled by Alex Job in 2007 and spares include wheels, gears, a spare pair of specially made half shafts (with cooling fans) and the original Stack dash instruments. There is also a made to order very special car cover with it. The car can be inspected here in Florida by appointment.
