The Porsche 911S was first introduced in July 1966 and enthusiastic owners started racing these 190 bhp cars almost immediately in the up-to-two liter class of GT/Sportscar races.
In 1967 the factory produced four “prototype” lightweight 911 racers that they called the 911R. These had lightweight body panels of aluminum and fiberglass with side windows of Plexiglas. Wider wheels were fitted to increase the cornering power. Everything that was strictly unnecessary was discarded in the interior. The type 901/22 engine featured twin plugs per cylinder, Weber carburetors and a compression ratio of 10.3:1. The 911R’s engine produced 210 bhp at 10,000 rpm and this little 1760 pound road rocket was the factory’s principal rally weapon of 1967.

There is little doubt that the 911 we are selling here was directly connected to the 911R and should rightly be called a 911S R lightweight. Originally campaigned by Porsche Car N.W., a subsidiary of Qvale Motors, this 911 was the 1967 Pacific Northwest C Production Champion.
Amongst other results, this car claimed the following:
1967: 3rd place American Road Race of Champions (National Runoffs) in Daytona.
1967: Winner of the U-2 class at Kent Washington Trans-Am. Porsche is the Manufacturers Champion in U-2
(In 1967 the car was driven by the late Gary Wright and owned by Porsche Car N.W.)
In 1968 the car was bought by Gary Wright and campaigned in SCCA National C Production.
1968: Entered in Kent Washington Trans Am. Engine expired on 3rd lap.
1969: Sold to Todd Webb of Portland, Oregon.
1969: Entered in Daytona 24 Hour. DNF after 33 laps (unknown reason).
1969: 5th place Daytona American Road Race of Champions.
1970-1973: Used as a street car/auto cross car by Todd Webb.
Parked in late 1972 or early 1973 and then sold to a Portland body shop owner with 6303 miles showing.
1988: Bought by Scott Tyler of Clearwater, Florida. Missing engine and rollbar. Disassembled, restoration started.
2003: Bought in pieces by present owner.
2006: Restoration completed.
This car still retains all of its original panels (with the exception of the driver’s door skin) and other components. This is one of a few early 911 racecars with history, and believed to be one of very few cars built to these lightweight specifications.
The car was featured in the May 2007 issue of Excellence magazine and was invited to the Amelia Island Concours event in 2009.
