At the last IMSA race of the season, the Daytona Finale, Ted Field was driving the car when he collided with Johnny Rutherford, who was driving one of Dick Barbour’s 935s when the race was black flagged; both cars were very badly damaged. Dick Barbour bought 0953 and used some of the parts in a new bodyshell he bought from the factory, probably 930 890 0037. With this, the Dick Barbour team won the 1978 Sebring 12-Hours (see 930 890 0037).
In May, 2007, the rights and remains of 930 770 0953 were sold by Dick Barbour to a new owner in the U.S. who has built the Interscope 934 1/2 back to it's original specification.
