In 1976, the Porsche 930 Turbo exploded onto the automotive scene. To say that it drew rave reviews from the World’s journalists and the first owners would be an understatement.

In 1978 Porsche went one stage further and introduced the 3.3 liter 930 Turbo which, at a stroke, got rid of the small problems that the 1976 930 had.

The brakes were uprated to twelve inch diameter ventilated rotors with RSR type calipers to cope with the incredible performance. An intercooler was fitted to bring down the inlet charge temperature and increase engine life and horsepower, which was quoted at 300. For the most discerning enthusiasts, the 1978 “Turbo” was the best road car Porsche ever built. 0 to 60 mph was 5.7 seconds, 0 to 100 was 13.7. This particular 930 has an extra 100 horsepower, so the performance should show a substantial improvement on these old figures!

Compared to it’s earlier cousin, the 1973 RS 2.7 Carrera, the 1978 930 Turbo has long been under-priced, thus giving great value for money and the Turbo that we offer here is no exception.

Peter Gregg was, arguably, the most successful driver of Porsche racecars of the 1970s. Only Hurley Haywood, his usual co-driver, had anywhere near his success and this 930 Turbo was Gregg’s personal car when new, built for him by the factory. There is a note from him to this effect in the driver’s manual that goes with it.

We have been advised that only two (of the one hundred and seventy 1978 930s built) were built to this specification. The other car went to the head of Porsche racing at the time, and it has the very rare Fuhrman-type seats. (They look like 928 seats.) This car originally had white linen door panels, which were removed and are in storage.

The interior is trimmed in reddish brown leather to sample (see photos) and the mileage is 63,000.
