| Chassis No. XKC 051. Winner of the 1953 Le Mans 24 Hour Race in the hands of Duncan Hamilton and Ivor Bueb. Given special "Lightweight" bodywork and Jaguar's secret weapon for 1953 - disc brakes, developed for cars fro aviation use in conjunction with Dunlop, this car was able to out class its rivals, if on braking alone, to win the race at an average speed of 105.84 mph (170.33 kph) achieving a distance in the 24 hours of 2,540.58 miles (4088.66 kms). The registration number of the 774RW was a factory "trade plate" which allowed new cars to be driven on public roads prior to official registration. The same "plate" was used on the 1955 Le mans winning "D" - Type long nose car. |
